Violent crimes are prevalent throughout the United States. They are an unavoidable crisis which occur throughout our everyday lives. The amount of crime varies vastly from state to state and city to city. Each year, the Federal Bureau of Investigation documents statistics of crime to better understand where and when it happens. In this article, we will look at what cities have the most crime. It should be noted that just because a city has more crime than another, it does not indicate that it is any more dangerous.
The first city on our list is Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Nestled alongside the western shore of Lake Michigan, Milwaukee is the United States 31rst largest city. The city is home to more than 600,000 residents, according to recent data. Crime rates within such a large population are anything but uncommon. Of those crimes, the study showed there were an average of 24 murders, 72 sexual assaults, and 624 robberies.
Next on the list is Memphis, Tennessee. This city was built along the winding Mississippi river, and has a population greater than 652,000 people. Being the second largest city in the United States, Memphis is host to a large number of crimes annually. The third city, and the second most violent, is Detroit, Michigan. It is the 19th largest city in the states. According to the FBI, the city had 1,817 crimes per 100,000 people. It was also home to the highest murder rate, with 59 murders per sum. Although crime rates vary from city to city, the FBI warns not to use these statistics as a measure of what city is the most dangerous. A variety of conditions attribute to the crime rates within each city. These rates are bound to fluctuate over time, and the causes that led to the crimes may vanish or change.
